Justin and Tori Griffin decided a barndominium was the perfect style for their family.
Justin Griffin was raised on a farm and always knew he belonged in the country. His childhood dream was to own 100 acres and a home.
“Growing up around nature and hunting and fishing, I loved it,” said Justin. “That’s definitely what I envisioned for my own family, too.”
His wife Tori grew up in a city but quickly fell in love with rural life after meeting Justin. After selling their starter home in Summertown, Tennessee, the couple found a 240-acre property in nearby Ethridge. Justin’s brother, Brandon, was also looking for land, so the two families decided to split the acreage, with each family building their own homes on the property. For Justin and Tori, the choice was clear: they would build a barndominium.
“We love the farmhouse-style look,” said Justin, “A barndo has the open concept, big garage and large windows so Tori can see the wildlife.”
Justin and Tori needed financing for the land and their unique home, challenging many traditional lenders. They turned to Rural 1st for help. They were instantly put at ease knowing their lending team was from the community and understood their exact needs.
“I already knew our loan officer for quite some time,” Tori shared. “I knew his family, and I knew he was a good guy, which made it easier to work with him.”
Justin echoed his wife's sentiments, saying, “From the moment we called Rural 1st, the process was nothing but smooth. They figure out what they can do to help, and get it done.”
Since completing and moving into their new home, Justin and Tori said they have cherished the peacefulness of the property. They also appreciate the opportunity to teach their young son about the importance of family and enjoying the outdoors.
“All your country dreams, you can do it out here,” Tori said. “It is just peaceful. Being able to be on our front porch and hearing the birds and the quiet of the country. Most importantly, getting closer to each other.”
